KTM has issued a recall-style update for a bunch of its latest 390 models, and it’s all about fixing a potential engine-stall issue with a simple software flash to the ECU.

Here’s what’s affected:

  • KTM 390 DUKE: model years 2024–2026
  • KTM 390 ENDURO R, SMC R, ADVENTURE R and ADVENTURE X: model years 2025–2026

During extensive testing, KTM found that in situations the engine on these bikes could stall at low rpm, especially at slow speeds or while decelerating. Even though only a small number of cases have shown this behaviour, KTM is proactively rolling out an updated engine control unit (ECU) map to all affected motorcycles to completely minimise the risk.

The new ECU software:

  • Greatly reduces the chance of the engine stalling at low rpm
  • Improves low-end torque
  • Increases overall engine stability and smoothness, especially at low speeds

If you own one of these bikes, you’ll get a letter from KTM letting you know your motorcycle is included. You’ll then need to book an appointment with an authorised KTM dealer, who will install the ECU update free of charge. The work is done only through KTM’s official dealer network. You can also check if your bike is affected and find your nearest dealer via the Service / Service & Safety Check section on KTM’s official website.

With this move, KTM is essentially saying: “We’d rather fix this now than wait for it to become a bigger issue,” reinforcing its focus on quality, rider safety, and long-term trust—while making sure your 390 keeps performing the way you expect.
