The sporty new cafe racer, the Triumph Thruxton 400 is kicking off its global debut right here in India, and fans everywhere else won’t have to wait too long—Triumph promises a rollout to other countries later this year. The new Thruxton 400 hits the showroom floor at ₹2,74,13/- ex-showroom and is already on display at most dealerships.

The Thruxton name actually traces its roots back to Triumph’s wins at the Thruxton racetrack, and over time, became the hallmark of cafe racer motorcycles. With the new Thruxton 400, Triumph wants to channel that racing heritage into a fresh, youthful package for the next generation.

Iconic Design

The Thruxton 400 leads Triumph’s 400cc range as the halo model. It’s made to turn heads and spark aspiration among younger riders—definitely not just for blending in. Inspired by Triumph’s long line of cafe racers, its form is classic but updated for a punchier street presence.

Triumph Thruxton 400 design highlights

  • Cockpit fairing, clip-on handlebars, and a rear seat cowl, nodding to British heritage in both looks and function
  • Monza-style fuel cap, bar-end mirrors, throttle body cover, and a silver aluminium finish on the tank for extra style
  • Attention to detail runs throughout, with signature headlamp, tail lamp, engine fins, and paintwork
  • Available in four colors: Lava Red Gloss, Pearl Metallic White, Phantom Black, and Metallic Racing Yellow

Triumph Thruxton 400 specifications and changes over Speed 400

  • Capable of hitting the magic ton—100 miles per hour (161kmph)—like any true cafe racer
  • Peak power is 42PS, with 2PS gained through revised cam timing
  • Torque sits at 37.5Nm, with 80% (30Nm) available from just 3500rpm
  • Rear sprocket now has 43/15 teeth (2 less than Speed 400 UG), which lowers the gearing for that top-speed capability
  • The redline has been bumped up by 1,000rpm—from 9,200rpm to 10,200rpm—so you can hold gears longer and enjoy quicker acceleration
  • 0-100kmph time is trimmed to just 6.7 seconds (a whole second quicker than the Speed 400’s 7.7 seconds) and 0-60kmph in just 2.9 seconds (vs Speed’s 3.0 seconds)
  • Redesigned radiator shroud improves heat dissipation
  • Rake angle tightened to 24.5 degrees (vs 25.1 degrees for Speed 400 UG)
  • Wheelbase is 10mm shorter for added agility
  • New subframe lowers the bike and tapers towards the rear for a sportier stance
  • Seat height dropped to 795 mm, and tank reshaped for a more committed ‘sit-in’ feel
  • Ground clearance is at 158 mm
  • Riding position is more involving, thanks to clip-on bars and rear-set footpegs—contrast to the upright Speed 400
  • The front brake reservoir had been repositioned
  • Suspension gets a boost: 43mm Big Piston USD forks and monoshock, both with 10mm more travel compared to Speed 400 UG. USDs are retuned to offset the extra 4kg of weight, while keeping a similar ride quality
  • Braking system remains robust—4-piston radial calipers and sintered pads
  • Rider-focused tech includes ride-by-wire throttle, slipper clutch, traction control, immobilizer, a functional console with distance-to-empty readout, and a USB charger
  • Class-leading service interval of 16,000km
  • Fuel efficiency is 27.5kmpl (very close to Speed 400’s 28.5kmpl)
