If you were hoping to snag the keys to the brand-new BMW F 450 GS anytime soon, you might want to settle in for a bit of a wait. It turns out the reception for BMW’s latest adventure bike has been nothing short of overwhelming. Since its launch on 23 April 2026, demand has skyrocketed, and the bike is already effectively sold out until September 2026.
While bookings are officially open at all authorised dealerships across the country, anyone placing an order today is looking at a waiting period of at least 4 to 5 months. With the first batch of deliveries not even starting until June 2026, the queue is growing faster than a GS on an open motorway.
Why the Massive Hype?
It’s not hard to see why riders are flocking to this one. The F 450 GS is a massive step up from the old G 310 GS it replaces. Developed in Germany but locally produced at the TVS Hosur factory in Tamil Nadu, this bike brings twin-cylinder refinement to a much more accessible price point. The only real challenge is the expected service costs, that seems to be touching Rs 20k per visit.
Here’s a quick look at the specs that have everyone talking:
- Engine: A newly developed 420cc parallel-twin pumping out 48 bhp at 8,750 rpm and 43 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm.
- Weight: A nimble 178 kg kerb weight, making it lighter than many of its rivals, including the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450.
- Performance: It’ll do 0-100 kmph in just 5.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 165 kmph.
Variants and Pricing
BMW Motorrad has launched the bike in three distinct flavours, with an introductory price starting at Rs 4.70 lakh.
- Base (Rs 4.70 lakh): Available in Cosmic Black, featuring a 6.5-inch TFT display, LED ‘X’ headlight, and three ride modes (Rain, Road, Enduro).
- Exclusive (Rs 4.90 lakh): Also in Cosmic Black, but adds off-road footpegs, hand guards, a clear windscreen, and Shift Assistant Pro for clutchless shifts.
- GS Trophy (Rs 5.30 lakh): The range-topper in Racing Blue Metallic. It gets the Easy Ride Clutch (ERC), sport suspension, and a white main frame.
High-Tech Adventure Gear
Despite being the entry-point to the GS family, BMW hasn’t skimped on the tech. Every F 450 GS comes with a 6.5-inch TFT display. You also get a 14-litre fuel tank, a standard saddle height of 845 mm, and a suite of safety electronics including ABS Pro, Dynamic Traction Control, and Engine Drag Torque Control.
The bike sits on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear lightweight aluminium wheels wrapped in tubeless dual-purpose tyres, ready for whatever the Indian roads (or lack thereof) throw at it.
The fact that the F 450 GS is sold out for the next five months proves that BMW has hit the nail on the head. By partnering with TVS to keep production local, they’ve managed to offer a premium, twin-cylinder adventure experience that bridges the gap between entry-level bikes and the heavyweight GS models.
If you’re okay with receiving your new toy closer to the festive season in September, you’d best head to a dealer and get your name on that list sooner rather than later!
