The upcoming Hero Xpulse 421 has been spotted undergoing testing yet again. This time, fresh video and photos circulating on social media has caught the heavily camouflaged motorcycle tackling extreme high-altitude conditions in Ladakh.
What makes this particular sighting fascinating is the star-studded testing team Hero has deployed. The new machine was seen sharing the road with a fleet of Xpulse 210s and Hero’s official 450 Rally race bike, piloted by none other than the Hero MotoSports Dakar Rally Team. Having Dakar legends like Ross Branch and Nacho Cornejo putting the motorcycle through its paces in one of the toughest riding environments in India shows just how seriously the brand is taking this final development phase.
Purpose-Built Adventure Design & Underpinnings
Even with its heavy camo wrapping, the new photos confirm that the Xpulse 421 is visually much larger than the smaller Xpulse 210. It sports a highly purposeful, rally-inspired ADV stance packed with features to strengthen its off-road credentials.
Structural and Styling Highlights
- The Silhouette: Features a sculpted seat that might help deliver a highly accessible seat height, alongside a huge fuel tank promising a decent touring range.
- Hardcore Armor: Comes equipped with a tall windscreen, handguards, a protective metal bash plate, and a sturdy luggage rack at the rear.
- Off-Road Ergonomics: Features serrated metal footpegs to provide maximum boot grip on rough trails, plus a sharply upswept exhaust to handle deep water-crossings with ease.
Rugged Underpinnings
The Xpulse 421 is built around a robust steel trellis chassis. It rides on a large, wire-spoke wheel setup—most likely a 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel (though some earlier design indicators hinted at a potential 21/18-inch configuration)—wrapped in dual-purpose rubber.
For handling the rough stuff, it utilizes non-adjustable USD front forks and a linked rear monoshock, which means a more premium “Pro” variant with fully adjustable suspension could always launch later down the line. Petal disc brakes handle stopping duties, while its generous ground clearance promises serious off-roading capabilities.
All-New 421cc Liquid-Cooled Engine
The bike’s exhaust note delivers a noticeably deeper, throatier rumble compared to its smaller siblings, matching the character of its brand-new 421cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine.
The new motor is expected to churn out roughly 45PS of power, bringing it right in line with its direct market rivals. It will be mated to a slick six-speed gearbox, and test mules hint at a punchy mid-range performance profile built to support both highway cruising and technical trail riding. Fingers are firmly crossed for a quick shifter, too!
A Giant Leap in Tech and Electronics
This looks set to become Hero’s most feature-loaded motorcycle yet. The cockpit area features a large TFT screen equipped with Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation.
Left Handlebar Switchgear: ├── Dedicated Mode Button (Toggles multiple ride modes) └── 4-way Joystick (Navigates the TFT display menus) Right Handlebar Switchgear: ├── Cruise Control Switches (Similar setup to the Glamour X 125) └── Hazard Light Switch
To assist with technical riding, the bike is also expected to feature a traction control system and switchable rear ABS.
Expected Price and Launch Timeline
Sitting comfortably at the very top of Hero’s ADV range, the production-ready model is highly anticipated to make its global debut at EICMA 2026. Whilst a formal showcase might happen later this year, the official commercial launch is projected to take place in early 2027.
