If you’ve been following the Indian biking scene lately, you’ll know things are getting seriously interesting in the sub-500cc segment. The latest buzz? A new Triumph Bonneville 400 has been spotted testing on Indian roads, and it looks like a proper retro treat. After the massive success of the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X, Triumph and Bajaj seem to be cooking up something a bit more “old-school cool” to take the fight directly to the Royal Enfield Classic 350.

The Iconic Bonnie Silhouette in a Smaller Package

From the recent spy shot, it’s clear that Triumph isn’t messing with a winning formula. The bike carries that unmistakable Bonneville DNA. We’re talking about a classic teardrop-shaped fuel tank, a rounded LED headlight, and those signature chunky mudguards. Even the switchgear looks new and not shared between the other 400s.

One of the coolest details spotted is the peashooter exhaust, which looks every bit as premium as its bigger brothers, the T100 and T120. To keep that vintage vibe going, the test mule was seen with gaiters on the telescopic front forks and twin rear shock absorbers—a stark contrast to the USD forks found on the Speed 400. It also looks like it’ll roll on wire-spoke wheels, further cementing its status as a pure modern-classic. It could even be tubeless, similar to the way the 390 Adventure tubeless spokes have been made.

Engine and Performance: A 350cc Twist?

Now, here’s where the numbers get interesting or should we say confusing. While it’s being dubbed the Bonneville 400, at least the Indian version will be the slightly downsized 349cc liquid-cooled engine. Why? To sit in a more tax-friendly bracket and compete head-on with the 350cc crowd.

If it shares the heart of the latest 2026 Speed 400, we could be looking at roughly 36.4 bhp at 8,000rpm and 32 Nm of torque at 7,000rpm. That’s plenty of poke for city zipping and comfortable weekend cruises. However I wish they give Bonneville 400 a bit more torque and that too not in a lazy way as that on the T4.

Tech and Hardware

Despite the retro looks, Triumph isn’t leaving us in the dark ages. The spotted bike featured a new single-pod digital instrument console, something not yet seen on the entire Triumph 400 range. We’re expecting bits like smartphone connectivity and perhaps even turn-by-turn navigation to be tucked away in there. For safety, you’ve got disc brakes at both ends, and you can bet your bottom dollar it’ll come with dual-channel ABS as standard and Traction Control as well.

Launch Timeline and Expected Price

So, when can you get your hands on one? Experts are pointing towards a June/July 2026 launch. As for the damage to your wallet, the expected price is hovering around the ₹2.2 lakh mark (ex-showroom).

It’s a bold move from Triumph. By bringing the Triumph Bonneville 400 to India, they aren’t just selling a motorcycle; they’re offering that premium British heritage at a price point that makes a lot of sense for the daily commuter. Watch this space—this could be the most refined retro roadster we’ve seen yet!
