If you were hoping to walk into a BMW showroom and ride away on the brilliant new twin-cylinder BMW F 450 GS anytime soon, we’ve got some rather sobering news for you. It turns out that the hype around this baby GS is entirely real—so real, in fact, that certain dealerships are now quoting an unbelievable waiting period of up to one whole year for new deliveries. We also recently got to know some more interesting numbers regarding the accessories price list for the BMW F 450 GS and now add to this 1 year wait, things are looking quite confusing!
The Showroom Lockdown: What’s the Wait Time in Major Cities?
The reception for the BMW F 450 GS has been so great that it sold out its initial production slots almost instantly. While early pre-bookers are expecting their keys by July or August, anyone trying to jump into the queue today is looking at a monumental wait.
A quick look at current showroom realities across major metropolitan areas paints a pretty wild picture:
- Mumbai & Kolkata: Showrooms here are staring down a heavy 8 to 9-month backlog for all variants.
- Bengaluru & Hyderabad: If you place an order in the IT hubs, prepare to wait anywhere between 6 to 8 months depending strictly on variant stock allocation. In fact, certain high-traffic outlets—like the Koramangala branch in Bengaluru—have reportedly stopped taking immediate bookings altogether, warning riders that if they don’t lock their name down by August, they won’t see a bike until well into early next year.
- Delhi: Things are arguably at their absolute worst in the capital. Dealership bookings are currently placed on complete hold because the sheer volume of orders has completely overwhelmed their system.
Why is the Line So Long for a Made-in-India Bike?
The BMW F 450 GS is actively manufactured right here in India at TVS facilities alongside their global export operations. So why the bottleneck?
It mostly comes down to two major structural reasons:
- Global Export Commitments: The Hosur factory isn’t just building these parallel-twins for Indian tarmac. This is a key global hub supplying international markets, meaning a massive chunk of early production lines is already spoken for and headed straight to Europe.
- Tiny Dealer Allocations: Inside sources suggest that many individual dealerships are slated to receive fewer than 50 total bikes—and in some smaller regions, as few as 5 to 6 units—to carry them all the way through the upcoming festival season.
The Dangerous Catch: Price Revisions
Waiting a year for a bike doesn’t just test your patience—it can also hurt your wallet. It is standard practice for automotive brands to implement routine price corrections or annual price hikes.
Because BMW’s official terms state that the final billing price is the price prevailing at the time of invoicing/delivery, booking a bike at the current introductory rate of ₹4.70 lakh (ex-showroom) means absolutely nothing if your delivery date lands in 2027. By the time your chassis number drops, you could easily find yourself paying a significantly premium revised price tag.
IAMABIKER Advice: Stand in Line or Jump Ship?
If you are absolutely dead-set on owning a premium twin-cylinder machine with that iconic blue-and-white roundel on the tank, you really have no choice but to drop your token amount and settle into the long waiting list.
However, if a 12-month wait makes you want to pull your hair out, it might be time to look at the market alternatives. The upcoming parallel-twin KTM 490 Adventure is on the horizon, the single-cylinder Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 is readily available, and the single-cylinder KTM 390 Adventure remains a punchy, nimble trail alternative that won’t make you wait a calendar year just to go riding. There are also options on the other side of the price pond, like the Honda NX500, Versys 650 etc which now seem affordable and value for money due to the BMW F 450 GS bike and accessory price.
Are you willing to wait up to a year for the BMW F 450 GS, or has this ridiculous delivery timeline completely turned you off? Sound off in the comments below!
