Aprilia Makes MotoGP History with Sensational Assen Podium Lockout

Aprilia Racing have just wrapped up their weekend at the iconic Assen TT Circuit, and they are walking away with another historic result under their belt. It was an absolute thriller of a race that saw a complete lockout of the podium for the manufacturer, turning the weekend into an unforgettable one for the team.

Jorge Martín Takes the Championship Lead

After starting the race from pole position, Jorge Martín rode a brilliant, rock-solid race to claim third place. It was a hugely positive weekend for the Spanish rider, made even sweeter by the fact that he secured his very first pole position since joining Aprilia Racing.

This third-place finish marks Martín’s second top-class podium at Assen, his 37th career MotoGP podium, and his fifth podium of the current season. But the biggest news of all? Thanks to this result, Martín has officially jumped into the lead of the overall MotoGP standings with 193 points. It’s a massive milestone for him, as he hasn’t led the championship since the 2024 Solidarity GP—exactly 588 days ago.

Martín later mentioned that while he was glad to bring home important points and felt he’d made a massive step forward with his speed and bike feeling, he spent 16 laps leading the race and giving it 100 percent. He tried to save his tyres for the final stages to battle it out with Ai and Raúl, but simply had nothing left, choosing instead to focus on taking home a solid points haul. Looking ahead, he noted that there is a clear dominator for the next race at the Sachsenring, so the team needs to show up as ready as they possibly can.

A Scare for Marco Bezzecchi

On the other side of the garage, it was a tough day for Marco Bezzecchi, who unfortunately crashed out at Turn 15 during just the second lap of the race. The Italian rider was immediately rushed to the circuit’s Medical Centre for a thorough evaluation by the medical staff and MotoGP Medical Director, Dr. Ángel Charte.

Initial checks showed that Bezzecchi was fully conscious and had normal mobility in all four limbs, with no immediate signs of neurological or systemic complications. However, because of the sheer force of the high-energy impact and the severe pain he was in, the medical team decided to transfer him to Groningen Hospital for further testing. Luckily, after undergoing CT scans and radiological examinations, no injuries were found. He has been declared fit to be discharged and is heading back to Italy this evening. Martín also made sure to send his teammate wishes for a lot of strength after seeing the nasty crash.

Trackhouse MotoGP Team Secure an Incredible One-Two

A massive honourable mention has to go to the SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team riders. After completely dominating the sprint race with a spectacular one-two finish, they went right ahead and repeated the exact same result in the main long race.

Ai Ogura crossed the line to take his very first MotoGP race win, finishing just ahead of his teammate Raúl Fernández. This incredible one-two, combined with Martín’s third-place finish, handed Aprilia the second full podium lockout in their MotoGP history, following their first one at the 2026 Le Mans race.

Ogura’s spectacular victory also marks Aprilia’s first-ever MotoGP win at Assen, beating their previous best track record of a second-place finish by Marco Bezzecchi back in 2025. On top of that, the win brings Aprilia’s grand total to an impressive 308 FIM Motorcycle World Championship victories.
