Meet the newest member of BMW’s GS family — the BMW F 450 GS, built specifically for the A2 licence class with its 48 hp output, signature GS design, and proven GS tech. BMW first teased this model back at EICMA 2024, targeting the fast-growing mid-capacity adventure segment, and now the series version fully delivers on that promise.
The F 450 GS is designed to be a true all-rounder: great for daily rides, lively on twisties, comfy for long tours, and totally capable off-road. If you opt for the GS Trophy version, you get the aggressive design language and high-tech components from the earlier concept, including lightweight magnesium parts.
With its balanced power-to-torque delivery, low weight, and classic GS ergonomics, the new F 450 GS is built to inspire confidence right from the start. It captures the well-loved GS spirit but in a modern, accessible, and impressively capable package.
Astrid Neudecker, Product Manager for the F 450 GS, sums it up perfectly: this bike is for anyone who wants agility, versatility, pure riding fun, and the latest tech—whether you’re commuting daily, heading out on long rides, or just want a light, playful, no-drama motorcycle. With more riders shifting from big bikes to lighter, more versatile machines, the timing is absolutely right.
One standout feature is BMW’s new Easy Ride Clutch (ERC). It works like an advanced centrifugal clutch, meaning you don’t need to use the clutch lever at all while riding—not for takeoff, not for gear changes, and not even during tricky off-road manoeuvres. This is a first in this class. You can still use the clutch manually anytime you want, but you won’t need to.
At launch, BMW is also offering a bunch of upgrades including an Akrapovic end can and cross-spoke wheels, letting riders push the bike toward sportier performance while staying true to its GS DNA.

Brand-New Platform, Ready for Anything
The F 450 GS has been completely redesigned with a focus on handling, durability, accessibility, and performance. It sticks to the GS template with iconic styling cues like the LED headlight with the “X” daytime running light and the familiar GS flyline.
New 420 cc Twin-Engine
At its core sits a new 420 cc two-cylinder inline engine with fuel injection and a stainless steel exhaust on the right side. It produces:
- 35 kW (48 hp) at 8,750 rpm
- 43 Nm at 6,750 rpm
Thanks to high-tech materials and reduced friction, BMW has squeezed impressive performance from a compact package that fits perfectly into the A2 twin-cylinder class. It also meets EU5+ norms and sips just 3.8 L/100 km, giving it a range of over 350 km from the 14-liter tank. Maintenance intervals stay BMW-standard at 10,000 km.
Interestingly, this engine uses a 135° crankpin offset with a single balance shaft — rare in this segment. This gives the motor a smooth yet characterful feel while keeping vibrations very low.
Easy Ride Clutch (ERC)
The ERC is one of the headline features. It’s standard on the GS Trophy variant and optional on others. Paired with Shift Assistant Pro, the bike can be ridden without touching the clutch lever at all. It behaves naturally—engine braking remains active, and the system only disengages just before idle to prevent stalling. It boosts comfort and control whether you’re off-roading, city riding, or tackling mountain roads.
Transmission & Riding Modes
- Six-speed gearbox, with the chain drive positioned on the left.
- Shift Assistant Pro (standard from all variants except the base, but retrofittable).
- Standard riding modes: Rain, Road, Enduro.
- Safety tech includes ABS Pro, DBC (Dynamic Brake Control), DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) and MSR (engine braking control).
- From the Exclusive variant onward, you get Enduro Pro, perfect for knobby tires and proper off-road riding (rear ABS can be turned off).
New Chassis for Better Handling
The F 450 GS uses a newly developed tubular steel frame integrating the engine as a stressed member—strong, lightweight, and precise. Suspension includes:
- KYB 43 mm USD forks (Sport and Trophy versions get fully adjustable “sports suspension”).
- Aluminum hollow-cast swingarm with a KYB central monoshock, adjustable for preload and rebound, with rally-inspired, travel-dependent damping.
Wheels are lightweight cast aluminum with tubeless tires:
- 100/90-19 front
- 130/80-17 rear
Cross-spoke wheels are available as official accessories.
Braking is handled by:
- Front: Brembo 4-piston caliper with 310 mm disc
- Rear: ByBre 1-piston caliper with 240 mm disc
With ABS Pro, DBC, and dynamic brake light included.
Comfort, Ergonomics & Practicality
The ergonomics strike a balance between road comfort and off-road mobility. You get a tapered aluminum handlebar, a slim body, and a well-shaped 14-liter tank.
Seat options:
- Standard: 845 mm
- Low seat: 830 mm
- Rally seat: 865 mm
You also get height-adjustable levers, optional 20 mm handlebar risers, and footrests with removable rubber inserts. The brake and gear levers are height-adjustable, and wider enduro pegs come with the Exclusive version and up.
BMW also offers multiple windshield choices, from clear to tinted Rally, plus a height-adjustable Tour screen. Crash protection, luggage options, tank bags, side bags, tail bags, and more are all available from the BMW accessory catalog.
