Alex Marquez is having his best MotoGP season since moving up to the premier class in 2020, showing marked improvement since joining Gresini Racing in 2023. Early in 2025, he came out firing—leading the championship after the first three rounds with consistent podium finishes, including his first MotoGP win at Jerez. He maintained strong form through the first nine rounds, scoring 69% of the total available points, a remarkable achievement for him.
However, things have shifted since late June. Marquez suffered a finger fracture in a crash at the Dutch GP and had a Long Lap penalty at Brno after another error, resulting in zero points from that race. His recent performance decline has caused his championship lead gap over his brother Marc Marquez to widen significantly—now trailing by around 120 points. Despite this, Alex remains positive and determined, focusing on the goal of finishing second in the championship. He acknowledges the challenge of catching Marc, who currently enjoys a dominant run and continual improvements with the factory Ducati team is quite impossible.
Even then Alex stresses the importance of learning from mistakes and maintaining patience. He attributes the large points gap as a realistic reflection of Marc’s current superiority and the factory team’s ongoing progress. Even so, Alex is 48 points clear of third place, Francesco Bagnaia, and believes securing the runner-up spot would be a major success under the current scenario.
