Even though it looks like Aprilia is trying all it can to retain Jorge Martin for 2026, it looks like Aprilia’s keeping its options open. If Jorge Martin decides to exit the team after just one season, the Noale-based squad already has a Plan B — and it comes in the form of Enea Bastianini.
According to reports, Aprilia has reached out to Bastianini as a potential replacement for Martin. The drama kicked off around the French Grand Prix, with Martin claiming he’s activated a clause that allows him to walk away at the end of 2025. Aprilia, on the other hand, insists he’s tied down for 2026 and is ready to take the fight to court if needed.
If Martin does end up parting ways with Aprilia after just one season, Bastianini could be the one sliding into that seat. Sky Italia confirms that there’s already been contact between the rider and the team. But it’s all contingent on Martin leaving, and Bastianini has other suitors too — including Pramac Yamaha, who are reportedly keeping an eye on him.
As for Bastianini, 2025 hasn’t been kind so far. After losing his Ducati factory ride to Marc Marquez, he landed at Red Bull KTM Tech3 but hasn’t really found his rhythm yet. He has just not been able to adapt to the KTM. Struggles with performance have kept him 15th in the standings after 10 rounds, trailing other KTM riders like Pedro Acosta, Maverick Vinales, and Brad Binder. With a best finish of just seventh place so far, whispers are already circling that he’s looking to break free from his current two-year KTM contract.
Whether he stays or makes a move, Bastianini’s name is definitely back in the mix — and if the Martin-Aprilia situation blows up, he could be right there to pick up the pieces.
