Joan Mir finally broke his run of misfortune in the 2025 MotoGP season by securing sixth place at the Austrian Grand Prix—his best finish this year and an important boost for both rider and team morale. Mir, piloting the Honda HRC Castrol machine, expressed relief at merely completing the race after enduring eight DNFs in 13 rounds, including three straight retirements prior to Austria. Mir quipped to MotoGP.com, “At the end, we could finish a race,” highlighting just how elusive that goal had become.

The Spanish rider attributed the turnaround to the dogged work of his team throughout the weekend. He noted that he had sensed similar performance potential in previous races, but was only able to realize it at the Red Bull Ring. Mir remains optimistic, hoping that new technical upgrades for Honda will soon enable him to “make that step that we miss” and consistently convert potential into results.

Luca Marini also shared his experience from the race, finishing 13th after dropping to last at the first corner. Despite promising practice pace, Marini had to fight through the field following his early setback, stressing how difficult it is to overtake in current MotoGP conditions. Nevertheless, he took positives from his comeback and is optimistic about further progress, especially with new parts on the horizon for himself and the team.
