After a tough few months on the sidelines, Jorge Martin is finally gearing up for a return to MotoGP action — starting with a private test aboard the Aprilia RS-GP25 at Misano on July 9.
This marks the first time Martin will ride a MotoGP bike since his brutal crash at the Qatar Grand Prix back in April. The reigning world champion suffered rib fractures and lung damage in that incident after being clipped mid-race by Fabio di Giannantonio. Since then, Martin has been battling through a long recovery and some contractual tension with Aprilia over his 2026 exit clause.
Back on Two Wheels, Step by Step
Martin recently made his first steps back onto a track at Barcelona — not on a MotoGP bike, but on a Superbike, easing himself back into rhythm after nearly three months away. That was his first serious riding session since the accident, and it seems things went well enough for Aprilia to green-light a MotoGP test at Misano.
This return has only been possible thanks to a recent tweak in MotoGP rules, allowing injured riders to conduct private tests to help gauge their recovery.

Still Not Cleared for Sachsenring
Despite his progress, Martin’s doctors aren’t rushing things. MotoGP medical director Dr. Angel Charte recently ruled him out of this weekend’s German Grand Prix, citing incomplete healing in a few of the fractured ribs, even though most areas are showing good improvement.
All Eyes on Brno Comeback
If all goes well at the Misano test, Martin is targeting a full MotoGP return at the Czech Grand Prix in Brno, scheduled for the following weekend. That round is the last one before the summer break, so it could be a well-timed comeback to shake off the rust and get back up to speed before the second half of the season.
With Martin still entangled in contract drama, and Aprilia on the rise thanks to Bezzecchi’s strong form, all eyes will be on Misano this week to see if the champ is truly ready to return — and whether he’ll stay with Aprilia in the long run.
