Aprilia has shared a promising update on Jorge Martin’s road to recovery, but the reigning MotoGP world champion won’t be making his return at the upcoming German Grand Prix. Martin, who has faced a string of injuries throughout the 2025 season, underwent a medical check-up in Barcelona on Monday. The exam showed encouraging signs—his scaphoid and rib fractures are healing steadily—but not quite enough for a racing comeback just yet.

It’s been a rough year for Martin. After missing the first three rounds due to separate injury incidents, he returned at the Qatar Grand Prix, only to suffer another crash that led to further fractures in his wrist and ribs. Since then, he’s been on the sidelines, working on recovery.

Lately, he’s ramped up his training, and there’s growing optimism that he could be back as early as July—possibly at the Czech Grand Prix in Brno. But for now, doctors have recommended at least two more weeks of rest, especially for his rib injuries, which still haven’t fully healed. A private medical exam scheduled for next week will determine the next steps, including the date for a private test session—a new rule that allows injured riders to get up to speed before rejoining the grid.

Here’s what Aprilia’s official statement said after the examination at Dexeus University Hospital:

“Clinical progress is good, with nearly a full range of motion in the scaphoid, though the bone hasn’t fully consolidated yet. Rib fractures on the left side show significant improvement, but not complete healing. Two more weeks of rest are needed. Participation in the German GP is ruled out.”

In Martin’s absence, test rider Lorenzo Savadori will continue to step in for Aprilia.

Off the track, Martin’s also in the middle of a contract saga. He’s reportedly looking to activate a performance clause to exit Aprilia early, with Honda said to be a serious contender for his services. His manager has already confirmed talks are ongoing.

While fans were hoping to see the #1 plate back in action sooner, it looks like they’ll have to wait just a little longer—possibly until Brno, where Jorge Martin could finally make his much-awaited return.
