Recent news claimed that Herve Poncharal, the owner of the Tech3 MotoGP team, had already sold the squad to former Formula 1 boss Guenther Steiner or a group led by him for around €20 million. However, Poncharal has now dismissed these stories as “fake news.” He’s acknowledged that he has indeed held talks with Steiner and other interested parties—mostly about potential investment, partnerships, or minority stakes—but he emphasized that absolutely nothing has been signed or finalized. In our eyes though it looks like a delay or bargaining tactic.
Poncharal said he finds the latest wave of speculation particularly annoying, pointing out that while discussions have happened, they’re just exploratory at this stage and there’s no sale to report. He’s also spoken honestly about wanting more time for his family and hobbies in the future but insists that if any change happens, it will be done thoughtfully, in a way that protects Tech3’s identity and team values.
Despite all the noise, Tech3 as of now remains under Poncharal’s leadership. No deal has been done with Steiner or anyone else. Talks about the team’s future may continue, especially as MotoGP grows and becomes more attractive to outside investors, but for now, it’s business as usual at Tech3. Considering the big changes in MotoGP coming in from 2027, the Bajaj involvement in KTM and the bigger Liberty Media ownership, something sure is around the corner with Tech3.
