Triumph’s new Scrambler 400 XC is finally globally available, and it’s exactly what the brand’s small-capacity adventure machine needed — that full-on retro off-road vibe straight from the factory. It has been priced at Rs 2.94 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). After the massive success of the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X, Triumph has doubled down with the XC variant, giving the lightweight 398cc single a tougher, more rugged look — even if the mechanicals stay largely the same.
What’s New? It’s All About the Style
Mechanically, the XC doesn’t stray far from the Scrambler 400 X — same 398cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine making 40 HP, the same frame, suspension, and geometry. But visually? It’s a different beast.
Key Scrambler 400 XC highlights:
- Wire-spoked aluminum wheels with side-laced spokes for tubeless tires
- A high-mounted front fender, straight from the accessories catalog, now fitted as standard
- A bash plate under the engine
- A new color-matched headlight cowl
- New paint options, especially the standout yellow scheme that brings a splash of retro Yamaha energy
It still rolls on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels, and the suspension travel is the same at 150 mm both front and rear. So while the off-road capability hasn’t changed much, it looks way more trail-ready — and that’s really what today’s scramblers are all about.

A Little Heavier, A Bit Pricier
All the extra kit adds up to 11 kgs more, bringing the wet weight to 190 kg. It also bumps the price up by about 27,000, with the Scrambler 400 XC priced at Rs 2.94 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). But for many, that premium will be worth it for the added style and personality.
Why This Bike Matters
The 400 series has been a game-changer for Triumph — in 2024 alone, they sold over 134,000 bikes, with nearly 30,000 of those in India. The 400cc bikes aren’t just doing well — they’ve become Triumph’s bestselling global models, and helped the brand reach record-breaking sales in its 122-year history.
The Scrambler 400 XC continues that momentum, offering something that appeals to both:
- Riders downsizing from heavyweight adventure bikes, and
- Younger or new riders entering the scene with something stylish, light, and usable.
And yes, like the originals, the XC was launched in India first before making its way to other global markets. If you loved the Scrambler 400 X but wished it had just a bit more grit, the XC is your answer. It may not be a hardcore off-roader, but it nails the aesthetic, adds real-world practicality (like tubeless tires), and still offers all the charm and approachability of Triumph’s excellent 400cc platform.
