Just a week after the action in France, MotoGP is heading back to Spain for the Catalunya GP. Interestingly, last year’s race happened in early September, so the riders might be facing some very different weather and track temperatures this time around. The event is massive for the fans, too; last year saw 187,086 spectators turn up, which was the biggest crowd since 2009. It is also a bit of a milestone year, as it is the 35th year in a row that the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has hosted a Grand Prix, though it did pull double duty in 2024 by hosting the Solidarity GP in November as well.

A Brutal Test for Brakes

The experts at Brembo, who have been working with every team on the grid for 11 years now, rank this 4.657 km circuit as one of the toughest on the calendar. On their difficulty scale of 1 to 6, Barcelona hits a solid 5.

Here is why the 2026 Catalunya GP is such a headache for the engineers:

  • Constant Pressure: Riders spend a total of 29 seconds on the brakes per lap across nine different braking points.
  • The Breakdown: Out of those nine points, four are classed as ‘High’ difficulty, one is ‘Medium’, and four are ‘Light’.
  • Physical Demand: At Turn 10, riders have to pull on the brake lever with a massive 6.3 kg of force—one of the highest loads they’ll face all season.

The Most Demanding Corner

While Turn 10 is a physical workout, the first corner is technically the most punishing for the bikes. The sheer numbers involved in slowing down for Turn 1 are staggering:

  • Speed Drop: The bikes scream down the straight at 341 km/h and have to drop to just 101 km/h.
  • Time and Distance: This massive deceleration happens in only 4.9 seconds, covering 266 metres.
  • The Stats: To make it happen, riders apply 6.2 kg of pressure to the lever, experiencing 1.5 g of deceleration.
  • Heat & Pressure: The brake fluid pressure hits 13.2 bar, and those carbon discs glow as they soar to temperatures of 780 °C.

Aprilia would be looking to continue its dominating streek while Ducati would be looking to consolidate with a home town hero Marc Marquez less line up with hopes pinned on Pecco, Alex and Diggia.
