The maxi-scooter king has officially gone electric. After its unveil late last year, the Yamaha Aerox E is not hitting showrooms and we have just ridden it. It promises to keep the “R-DNA” soul of the petrol version while ditching the fuel pump for a charging socket. But can an electric scooter really feel like an Aerox?
Quick Summary
- On-Road Price: Rs 2.2 lakh (expected)
- Real-World Range: 90 km (Eco) / 70 km (Power)
- Loved the idea of twin removable battery
- Verdict: Great for Premium Sporty City Commuting and Enthusiasts.
Yamaha Aerox E Price in India
The on-road price although not announced of the Yamaha Aerox E is going to be a significant jump over the petrol version, largely due to the 4.2 kWh battery pack. Ex-showroom prices are expected to touch Rs 2 lakh. However, with the PM E-Drive subsidy (extended through July 2026), the blow is somewhat softened.
How Does the Yamaha Aerox E Look and Feel?
Road Presence
If you loved the bulky, muscular look of the Aerox 155, you won’t be disappointed. The Aerox E retains that “underbone” motorcycle-inspired frame. It looks significantly larger than an Ather or an Ola, giving it a “Big Bike” ego on the road. It has the sporty looks that no other electric scooter can match. Build quality also is good overall.

Ergonomics & Ground Clearance
At 812 mm it the seat height is higher that the petrol Aerox. A 5’5″ rider would be comfortable though as the seat tapers lower quite a bit towards the front and would be able to manage it. On the flip side, riders of 5’10” and above would find it quite cramped. The centre tunnel means you can’t carry groceries between your legs—this is a rider’s scooter, not a utility vehicle.
- Weight: At 139 kg, it’s heavy for an EV but feels planted at high speeds and you really do not feel that weight at any point.
- Ground Clearance: 145 mm. It handles standard bumps well, but those “mountain-sized” Indian speed breakers require a slow approach to avoid scraping the belly.
Yamaha Aerox E Performance and Real-World Range
The Aerox E features a mid-ship swing arm mounted motor that produces a peak power of 9.4 kW and 48 Nm. There is also an additional Boost Mode on the left switch gear for a short burst of added power when you need it.
That said, while the power and torque figures seem good on paper, it does not translate well to real world usage. The instant response felt quite muted and not as exciting as one would expect a scooter with the Aerox badge. The Boost adds some much needed relief during overtakes and uphill climbs but only for 10 seconds, and takes about 30 seconds to be active again.
The real world range is also not something to boast about. In ECO mode you get close to 90 km and in Power mode you get close to 70 kms of range.
Charging times are 6 hours 20 minutes for 0 to 100%. (Both batteries combined)
Yamaha Aerox E Handling and Braking
This is the area in which the Yamaha Aerox E shines. The scooter is well balanced and feels light and confident to ride. The ride is stiff at the rear and slightly better at the front. If you are in the mood for some sporty riding, the Aerox E is a happy partner that keeps you engaged and puts a smile on your face.
The brakes too feel sharp and precise.

Is the Yamaha Aerox E Practical for Daily Use?
This is a clearly a rider centric scooter, if you want something sporty for the daily commute then it makes sense. This is clearly not a utilitarian scooter.
The Pillion Test
The rear seat is sporty(high) and slightly narrow. While the grab rails are sturdy and integrated into the body. Its meant for the youth and not the typical scooter pillion.
Storage & Tech
- Storage: Because the battery takes up central space, the under-seat storage is reduced to 15 litres. It fits a sleek half-face helmet, but your bulky full-face track helmet will have to stay with you.
- Tech: It comes with a 5-inch colour TFT display and looks excellent and details are easy to read.
- You get Sigle Channel ABS and Traction Control.
- A rear Disc brake as well.
