The Idea: One Bike, Two Worlds
Kawasaki says the KLX230 is all about versatility – a capable trail machine that’s just as happy slicing through traffic. Managing Director Yutaka Yamashita sums it up: this bike is here to “make your motorcycle life more bountiful and exciting, from city riding to racetrack” and to give more Indian riders the pure fun of off-road motorcycling.
Engine & Performance
At its core sits a 233cc, air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC fuel-injected single producing 19 PS at 7,800 rpm and 19 Nm at 6,200 rpm. It’s tuned for strong low-to-mid-range torque, balancing trail control with road usability. A 6-speed return transmission keeps things smooth, while the electric starter makes one-touch ignition a breeze.
Notably, the KLX230’s simple 2-valve layout means low maintenance and solid efficiency. Whether you’re navigating steep inclines, dusty rural tracks, or open highways, the bike’s power-to-weight ratio ensures fun while keeping fuel consumption in check.
Chassis, Suspension & Handling
- Frame: High-tensile steel perimeter frame – lightweight yet rigid for nimble handling.
- Weight: Just 139 kg curb weight – making it beginner-friendly and agile.
- Suspension:
- Front – 37 mm telescopic fork with 220 mm travel
- Rear – New Uni Trak with adjustable preload, 223 mm travel
- Wheels & Tyres: 21-inch front and 18-inch rear with dual-purpose tyres for grip on both dirt and tarmac.
- Ground Clearance: A generous 255 mm, perfect for clearing trail obstacles.
- Seat Height: 880 mm – manageable for a wide range of riders.

KX-Inspired Design
The MY26 KLX230’s styling draws heavily from Kawasaki’s motocross-winning KX450 and KX250. It gets:
- Smooth, flowing plastic bodywork with minimal protrusions for unrestricted rider movement.
- Slim LED headlight in an angular cowl for better visibility and a modern, aggressive face.
- Sporty front fender and black alloy rims for added visual punch.
- Flat KX-style seat that aids body movement when off-roading.
- Flush panel fitment between the tank shrouds, seat, and side panels to reduce snags during active riding.
Tech & Safety
The KLX230 comes with single-channel ABS on the front wheel that can be switched off via a handlebar-mounted toggle for pure off-road control. The digital instrument cluster is compact but informative, with:
- Speedometer
- Odometer
- Dual trip meters
- Fuel gauge
- Clock & indicator lamps
This setup is designed to keep weight low and visibility clear without overcomplication.
Colours & Variants
For now, the MY26 KLX230 will be offered in two striking colourways:
- Lime Green – iconic Kawasaki racing livery.
- Battle Gray/Bright White/Ebony – a stealthier, modern look.

Accessories
Factory accessories include:
- Rear carrier
- Frame covers
